His Worship Acire Julius Labeja, the Mayor of Gulu City, has chaired his first Executive Committee meeting since assuming office, bringing together members of the Executive Committee, Heads of Department, and senior technical staff to review the city's development agenda and the status of ongoing and completed projects.
A key highlight of the meeting was a series of presentations by Heads of Department, who provided updates on completed projects, ongoing interventions, and planned activities across various sectors. The presentations enabled the city's political leadership to gain a deeper understanding of departmental performance and project implementation ahead of the close of the 2025/2026 financial year.
In his remarks, Mayor Labeja congratulated the newly elected councillors and members of the Executive Committee and thanked city staff for their support during the successful swearing-in ceremony. He also commended the technical team for their contribution to Gulu City's strong performance, noting that the city continues to rank among the top-performing local governments in the country.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration between political leaders and technical officers, calling on all staff to work together towards a common goal of improving service delivery. He urged departments to maintain open communication, respect institutional roles and responsibilities, and share information to ensure efficient implementation of city programmes and projects.
"We must operate as one team. Through collaboration, professionalism, and mutual respect, we can achieve more for the people of Gulu City," Mayor Labeja noted.
The Mayor further encouraged departments to hold regular engagements with their teams and strengthen coordination as the city prepares for the transition into a new financial year.
Following the departmental presentations, the Executive Committee proposed a monitoring visit to ongoing and completed projects across the city. The exercise will enable leaders to assess progress on the ground, identify implementation challenges, and make recommendations aimed at improving project performance and service delivery.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from both political and technical leaders to promote accountability, integrity, and teamwork in advancing Gulu City's development agenda.
