Gulu City is on course to successfully deliver the majority of its planned development projects for the Financial Year 2025/26, with recent monitoring findings indicating that most projects have either been completed or are in their final stages of implementation.
This was confirmed during a project monitoring exercise conducted on Friday by members of the City Executive Committee and senior technical staff across various project sites in Laroo-Pece Division.
The monitoring team found significant progress on several road infrastructure projects, including Laliya Road, Community Road, Layik Road, Omoti Road, Latigo-Gulu Gali Road, and Stephen Oketch Road. The improved road network is expected to enhance mobility, ease transportation challenges, and support economic activities across the city.
In the education sector, major investments aimed at improving learning conditions are also nearing completion. The city has substantially progressed works on the renovation of a classroom block at Bungatira Central Primary School, and completed the construction of new classroom blocks with offices at Pakwelo Primary School and Koro Primary School with a few minor corrections to be made as suggested during the monitoring visit.
Health infrastructure projects are equally advancing well, with fencing works at Lapeta Health Centre II and Unyama Health Centre II fully complete. The projects are expected to strengthen security at the facilities and create a safer environment for both health workers and patients.
The monitoring exercise provided an opportunity for city leaders to assess the quality and pace of implementation ahead of the financial year's closure. Members of the Executive Committee expressed satisfaction with the overall progress and commended the technical teams, contractors, and project supervisors for ensuring that projects remain on schedule.
While a few projects still require final touches, city leaders emphasized the need for contractors and supervising teams to address outstanding issues promptly to ensure all works are completed to the required standards.
The strong performance reflects Gulu City's commitment to effective planning, prudent use of public resources, and improved service delivery for residents. As the financial year draws to a close, the city remains focused on completing the remaining works and ensuring that communities fully benefit from the investments made across the road, education, and health sectors.
The monitoring exercise will continue this week with visits to project sites in Bardege-Layibi Division as the city finalizes implementation of its FY 2025/26 development programme.
